So I've just arrived in San Francisco via London, en route to Monterey for 6Sight. A couple of days here is a pleasant way of mingling buiness with pleasure.
As a kid on the other side of the Atlanic, I remember the fascination I had with the Golden Gate bridge and, by extension, all things California. It seemed impossibly far away and impossibly romantic. When I first saw the GG bridge in the flesh or iron or whatever some 12 years ago, it was a magical moment that instantly brought back all that childhood wonder. And yesterday, when I cruised under it on a tour boat (typical tourist), I felt 10 years old again. Except that I was already on my fourth Coors and slightly spaced out with jet lag.
But there are some - notably commedian Billy Connolly - who reckon there's an equally impressive bridge in Scotland, namely the Forth Rail Bridge. Here, judge for yourself.
